Coralie Saramago creates fine sculptures through a combination of woodturning and woodcarving. She uses French wood, preferably local, in an ecological approach to tree preservation, using and reusing discarded pieces of wood. Each piece is unique, and variations on the same theme make up her various collections.

Each artist uses art to express a singular part of themselves. Through her works, Coralie Saramago shares with us an intimate vision of what makes her alive, and of her understanding of relationships with nature and the rest of the living world.

Motivation :

“Through my creations, I wish to share what amazes and uplifts me in my relationship with nature and living things. Often, I tell a story, I speak of values that are close to my heart, with the ambition of modeling the intangible in matter, of making the intangible palpable.

My ambition is to create emotion through the wood material. If, on encountering the work, the public is moved, sometimes without even a single word being said, then my objective has been achieved.”

In few words :

Creating… creating to express ourselves, creating sparks, creating emotion.

Aiming for the beautiful, the kind of beauty that brings us directly into the feeling, without having the time to understand what is going on… letting ourselves be caught by this emotion.

Approach and inspiration:

Her love for the curves and her constant quest for elegant lines is what guides the artist throughout her creations. At the same time, it’s important for her to highlight the natural form of wood, to bring out its pattern and texture, to bring out its finest qualities; perhaps in the process, helping the public to take a fresh look at this noble material that surrounds us every day. Her highly organic style reflects a desire to honor the living form of the tree, an expression of gratitude for allowing us to live on Earth.

Coralie Saramago sees her approach to material modeling as a co-creation with the wood. Meeting and listening to the material allows her to add value to the sculpture in the creation of her works, thanks to the benefits derived from the particularities and properties of each species.

Deeply connected to the organic and vegetal world, her work is looking for the movement of living things, but also for how to inscribe the sculptor’s movement in the material. For Coralie, life is in constant motion, dancing and alive, like the leaves of a tree in the spring wind. It’s enough to leave us dreaming…

In addition to the power of the shape, the artist’s works in the seeds collection reflect the values she holds dear to her heart, and which she wishes to defend in this society. These works invite us to reconnect with the essentials of life.

In poetry:

Awake all our senses.

Admire nature and being grateful for all that it inspires in us.

Follow a curve that we cross, let it grow inside us until it blossoms.

Capture the detail of a texture, let ourselves travel there for the greatest of journeys.

Welcome an emotion and see how it can be shared, how it can be shaped outside of ourselves.

Respect the wood, the living.

Play… again and again!
